I’m Jess Keller, a NYC director and director of photography and founder of Lightroot Media- concepting, shooting and writing for documentaries, brand films and commercials for cutting-edge and Fortune 500 brands. Documentary and brand storytelling, particularly short-form pieces about culture, entertainment, and marginalized voices- is my favorite creative lane.

As a director, I prioritize intentional creative planning, relationship-building with clients and talent, and have made executives, celebrities and the camera-shy feel human in front of the lens. I have a background in both traditional production and in-house agency work, allowing me to speak the film language of my crew and marketing language of my clients.

As a DP, I'm camera-agnostic, working primarily with Sony and Arri, but no stranger to Panasonic, Blackmagic, Canon, RED and DJI drones. I have a collaborative and photographic approach, prioritizing composition over wide-spray movements and am seasoned in studio and in the field. Let’s talk.
